Culinary Tourism: Bandung
Only two reasons why Jakartans bother to go to Bandung during the weekends: food and shopping. Since the Cipularang tol road is available, the trip from Jakarta-Bandung became faster: 1.5 hours (me driving BMW).
The Cipularang Tol: The road is not smooth and the turns are a bit scary when you are driving 140 km/hour (the limit is 80 km/hour but who really cares). But I’d recommend to go not more than 120 km/hour, especially if you drive japanese car.
We left early, around 7 AM from Jakarta. Lots of trucks that drives slowly but didn’t bother moving to the left lane. So annoying. They should teach these truck drivers to stay at the left lane. Also the slow drivers to move to the left lane.
We arrived Bandung, Dago to be precise, around 8:30 AM. Hit the Bubur behind Borromeous hospital. Rp. 5000,- for a tummy kickin’ bubur! Then went to Sambara, a sundanese resto where you have a food bar with lots of choices, starting from the meat to the variable veggies. Three of us, we spent total of Rp 114,000, which included fried gurame, chicken, ati ampela, raw vegetable called karedok and various other veggies, with sayur asem and 4 different sambal. We stuffed ourselves to death! A definetely must visit restaurant, I think this one will be around for long.
After our feast, we headed to Batagor Kingsley. While waiting, we had Es Teler Bungsu which still existed up to now. We also bought munchies. The trip was then followed by buying munchies and brownies at Kartikasari, and while there, my friends bought durian ice cream (not my favorite at all!).
It was already 6:30 pm when we headed out for Jakarta. First we planned to go via Puncak to enjoy the poffertjes at Puncak Pass, but I took the wrong road so we headed back using the Cipularang tol road again (this time it was 2 hours).
Arrived home and fried the Batagor, although still a bit full from the late lunch.
Bandung is full of good and tasty food. Lots of choices and cheap too. Now that it is closer to Jakarta, we can make it a one day trip.

Hi tukangkomentar,
Yum yum, I remember! But I ate more tahu berontak from Sukajadi, where I lived for a brief moment during my school time (which was about 20 years ago). Do you remember tape goreng, nanas goreng, nangka goreng at Jalan Diponegoro? After working hard in the lab, we usually go there and consume those together with bajigur or bandrek!
Cheers

Naik buanyak Bas, Bandung is where you eat, eat, eat! Btw, sekarang sudah ada Sambara di Jakarta, di Cipete. Next to Dapur Sunda. And on Jl. Senopati, ada yang namanya Bumbu Desa, which has a similar concept with Sambara.
