Between Swines, Flu and Those Around Us

Cute piggies: they don't look THAT bad...

Everybody is now alerted by the Swine Flu, which started in Mexico.   I thought this might be interesting, because pigs are considered ‘haram’ for moslems and Indonesia has about 85% of those who claims as moslem.   Some thoughts that came to My Busy Brain is about how Indonesian government is going to handle this, because the Ministry of Health, in my opinion, did a poor job on bird flu.

For example, the ministry of agriculture has stopped importing pork for the time being.   But the ministry of trade has not stopped products made from pork.   Now, what is the big fuss about pork, when the H1N1 virus cannot be passed from eating pork?  We don’t import life stock  as far as I know.  Do they know that the virus is transmitted by direct contact (i.e. saliva)?  Airborne?

The next silly thing is the statement from the Minister of Health, Siti Fadillah Supari.  Here, she said that Indonesians should not be afraid because Indonesia is used to take care of more severe flu (the avian flu), where the death rate is 80% in Indonesia (up to now) while the swine flu is 6% death rate (in other countries).   Doesn’t that only show how the health department failed take care of the avian flu properly?

Another stupid silly statement is that Indonesia shouldn’t worry too much because H1N1 lives better in cooler climate.   Hellow…Mexico.  Hellow….Hongkong.

Until when will Indonesians be a laughing stock for the foreigners?  Until when will the government stop coming up with stupid statements?

The reaction of people to swine flu is even more entertaining though silly, and as expected, they blame that pigs are ‘haram’ anyways so stop consuming pork.  It seems like the blind leading the blind here, doesn’t it, and wonder how this rich country is managed.  Pretty scary.

Talking about pigs, I think we are surrounded by pigs and swines anyways.  Look at the character of pigs.  They eat everything to fulfill their basic needs.  They eat shit, they screw their mother, yes, they are like dogs but they are less cute and don’t have great characters like dogs.  The amazing thing about pigs is that they don’t care, as long as they can fulfill their basics, they are fine.  And unlike dogs, they are not smart.

The Busy Brain thinks that some people share this character.  Look at the politicians during the election.  Don’t they act like pigs?  Rushing and do everything no matter how nonsense it is to be in the legislatives.   Fighting in front of the public, watched by million of people.  Say brahaha about pornography yet they commit adultry.  Hope to be a legislative so that they can earn money for themselves;  making Indonesia a better country is low in their agenda.

Not only politicians, also the so-called spiritual leader.  Shamelessly corrupting verses from the Qur’an and mislead people for their own benefit.

Look at the Lapindo case.  Shamelessly, avoiding to be responsible by blaming it on the earthquake.  Not thinking about how others suffer because of the lousy management.  Even the Geologist Association backed up this theory and became a laughing stock for the worldwide geologist in the AAPG convention in Capetown.  Hey, isn’t Lapindo owned by a guy who is one of the minister in this country?  Who was also sitting with the Health Minister regarding the swine flu? The Minister of Welfare?

Not so far away, sometimes the Busy Brain starts to lose confident in herself when looking at her surroundings.  People who just do things to please others without thinking about the surroundings.   Forgetting about how important it is to be trustworthy  and truthful.   Put aside values way back in the corner where you cannot find it anymore and finally forgotten.  Do things to please share holders but forgot how to manage work and the people doing the work.  As long as the share price is going up, who cares about truth?  As long as the bosses are happy and give us bonuses, it’s ok to kiss some arses, right?  Shameless.

When the Qur’an says we should not consume ‘khinsir’ (which is translated as pigs), does anybody practise not adopting the pig character themselves?

Which pigs should be banished, the four legged ones or the two legged ones?  What happened to ideology, values, moral, shame, respect, responsibility?

I’m more concerned and worried about the swine mentality than the swine flu, to be honest.

  1. i agree ..

one thing “good” about pig, it’s an efficient animal, can turn ‘anything’ to meat n fat (protein n calories) he…..he… peace.

  2. How funny yet unbelievably true your comparing the pigs with the politicians is! It’s amazing how those wankers think they can make this country better when even before they get elected they’ve already done enough damage!

  3. [...] Busy Brain, also from Indonesia, blogs about the “swine mentality” of many leaders in the country Until when will Indonesians be a laughing stock for the foreigners? [...]

  5. Hey,
I like pigs. They’re kind of cute in a strange sort of way:P Anyways, just wanted to correct you on a factual error. Pigs are smarter than dogs and also very clean animals. Wouldn’t want them as a pet, but they don’t deserve the bad rapt they have been given. They’re also fairly friendly (the small ones anyways). Lived near a few farms growing up:D
